When I planned the year, I planned my vacation travel to be in June so that I can stop over in Oman to view the solar eclipse that is happening on 21st June 2020. While the eclipse is viewable in my own country, Sri Lanka, we can only see a partial eclipse, whereas in Oman you can view an annular eclipse.
Unfortunately the COVID-19 situation meant that I had to shelve the entire plan. Thankfully all is not lost yet.
The map above shows the path of the annular eclipse in the red double line and the grid above and below show how much of a eclipse you can see. If you are in Sri Lanka, the maximum eclipse you will see would be around 30%.
The timing of the eclipse falls in the monsoon season for the region of the country I am from. However, it has also been a bit sunny lately than usual and specially today, just one day before the eclipse, it is extremely sunny. But what this means generally is that I will have to keep my car ready to roll out and drive for about four hours based on how it turns up tomorrow morning.
Tried out taking a photo with my set up just to test it out. Looks like the sun is spotless, which kind of makes it slightly less interesting ;)
